Kristi Lay

Kristi grew up overseas as a missionary kid in Papua New Guinea, which gave her a heart for people of many different backgrounds and cultures. After graduating with a Bachelors in Christian Ministry from Taylor University, Kristi married a man studying to be a missionary pastor. Unaware of his abusive background and hidden anger, she immediately became a victim of his abuse. The pain of trying to hide the reality of her abuse as a youth pastor’s wife, lead her to seek help from the church; this resulted in church leader condemnation and spousal rage.

She is forever grateful for the rescue process through family support, and non-church based abuse counseling. The recovery process awakened and empowered Kristi to minister to other women in bondage, and to raise awareness for necessary church support to victims of domestic abuse. Because of Kristi’s struggles, she has a heightened awareness for unhealthy symptoms and has helped rescue several women before marriage.

Now in a healthy marriage, Kristi homeschools her two children. She and her husband, Jeff Lay, just moved to Wake Forest, NC in Nov 2016. Jeff fully supports Kristi’s involvement in Called to Peace Ministries and continuing her passion to bring hope and healing to those suffering as she once did.

Kristi has mentored about a dozen women over the past 10 years, through the phases of their abuse and transition to freedom. She is a leader in the Trauma Recovery group through the Summit Church, helps co-lead the Called to Peace women’s support group, and is actively involved in women’s ministry of Journey church, where she attends.
